Details have emerged of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s meeting with the United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken during his virtual visit to the Country yesterday Tuesday, April 27, 2021.
In a statement by the statehouse spokesperson Kanze Dena, the two leaders talked about, trade and investment opportunities, delving on the untapped potential held by the Kenya-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Reports further indicate that they also talked about matters of security and the Country’s role in ensuring regional peace, human rights.
“Also discussed was Kenya’s elevated role in regional peace and security as a member of the UN Security Council. Other matters discussed by President Kenyatta and Secretary Blinken were human rights, refugees, health, and climate change,” stated Kanze.
Blinken also reiterated
their commitment to working with Kenya in fostering for shared interest in
democracy, economic ties, the anti-corruption the refugees and their host
communities.
They also talked about global health and climate change for the benefit of both the American and Kenyan people.
During the virtual
meeting, President Uhuru Kenyatta affirmed Kenya’s commitment to
strengthening the bilateral
ties and forging a strong partnership with the United States of America.
Also in attendance at the meeting were Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo and the Head of Public Service Dr. Joseph Kinyua.
This comes just months after President Uhuru Kenyatta in December last year had their first-ever phone call with US President Joe Biden since assuming office.
During the call, the two leaders discussed matters regional and international issues, with President Kenyatta grabbing the opportunity to convey his congratulatory message.
The phone call was preceded by his message in November 2020 following his landslide win in the polls.
“Americans have spoken loudly and clearly through their votes by picking a highly experienced, colorfully decorated, and long-serving leader to become their next Head of State.
“On behalf of the People and the Government of the Republic of Kenya, I congratulate President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris for their emphatic win and wish them all the best as they prepare to lead the United States of America into a future of prosperity,” noted the President.
