Following Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya’s U-turn from backing Deputy President William Ruto in 2022, of the under carpet deals of of ODM leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta to counter DP Ruto.

Reports from the Star indicate that the head of state’s team is currently planning a grand alliance teaming together all the pro-BBI leaders and the One Kenya Alliance under the ODM leader to battle it out with the DP’s team.

Details of the upcoming alliance was hinted by Raila’s right hand man in the Coast Ali Hassan Joho, during a press conference telling a local publication that he wouldn’t fancy being one who undermines Raila’s mission.

“when he has secured the support of Uhuru”, and vowed to take part in “serious handshake action”. Said Joho.

“I’ve had numerous discussions with the former PM, which have left me convinced that the vision and dream that we have chased unsuccessfully over the years is around the corner,” Joho was quoted saying at the time.

“His brother, the President, shares that belief very strongly.” Joho added.

This comes in the wake of a surprise U-turn by the Kakamega governor who was on the verge of being fronted a s the DP’s running mate to rally the Western bloc votes.

“If Raila decided to run for the presidency then I will not oppose him,” Oparanya declared.

“I have worked closely with Raila for many years since 2005 when I joined the party. I will consult with him on what position I will go for in case he will be running for president,” Oparanya added.

It has since emerged that the same deal made the Mombasa Governor shelve his bid and throw his weight behind Raila Odinga.

Their abrupt turn now gives Raila the space to organize his ODM house before teaming up with Gideon Moi, Musalia Mudavadi, Kalozo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula, backed by other pro-BBI forces from Mount Kenya region to sweep to victory in 2022.
