It’s almost half a month now now and probably the bodies of the two victims of the Likoni ferry tragedy have already spoiled or even worse, eaten by sharks the State says are active at the spot where the car plunged.
The multi-agency team’s effort to lift the Likoni ferry tragedy car that plunged into the ocean with two people failed to bear fruits again and the whole operation has became a national frustration.
Rtd Colonel Cyrus Oguna the government spokesman conceded the matter on Thursday evening after several attempts by the multi-agency team to lift up the wrecked vehicle using
a specialized gadget failed.
The government spokesman Oguna gave quite a number of reasons as to why the
retrieval process has not been successful despite being carried out since 29
November.
According to Oguna, the strong undercurrents at seabed interfered with the process of diving and pulling out the wrecked vehicle with the bodies carefully adding that they were supposed to lift the vehicle with the victims’ bodies intact to avoid smashing it in the rifts.
“We had issued a 100 percent possibility of retrieving the vehicle but we didn’t manage because of two reasons, one is due to strong undercurrents at the seabed and also we want to get the bodies inside while intact.” said Rtd Colonel.
Oguna urged the people to be more patience claiming they are operating on delicate
grounds.
According to Oguna the main goal was to retrieve the car with bodies intact and any mistake would make the bodies spill from the car, and that would only worsen the situation and will hurt the bereaved family more.
Kenyan Bulletin sends condolences to the family but the main question remains this. Imagine if the plunged car had a prominent business person or lets say a Politician! Would the operation have taken that long? Or this is only being delayed to save the bad image of Unsafe Kenyan port?
