Incarcerated Jamaican Dancehall Star Vybz Kartel was voted the dancehall king against all odds.
The ‘Worl Boss’ floored a host of seasoned artists such as Alkaline and Popcaan for the coveted award.
The recent survey saw Kartel win with a landslide vote as fans acknowledged his immense contribution to the genre.
The Gaza King has always maintained that the dancehall crown belongs to him and the poll by Television Jamaica made it evident.
The contenders for the title included Alkaline, Popcaan, Dexta Daps, Masicka and Vybz Kartel.
After the poll, Kartel was leading the fray with 64.7 percent of the votes.
His closest challenger was Alkaline garnering 14 percent of the votes, Popcaan emerged third with 13 percent of the votes, Dexta Daps managed 5 percent while Masicka was last with 4 percent of the votes.
It was a sweet victory for Vybz Kartel who has continued to release music while behind bars, the recent being the chart topping ‘Dark Ages’ with fellow jailed Star Tommy Lee Sparta.
Kartel took to Instagram and thanked his fans for their loyalty.
“NUFF THANKS AND RESPECT TO THE GAZANATION & THE DANCEHALL FANS WHO CONTINUE FI SUPPORT THE MOVEMENT! FROM 2000 TILL NOW! DON’T EVER THINK MI TAKE UNUH RATINGS LIGHTLY OR FOR GRANTED!!! NO, ME EVER A WORK HARD FI PLEASE DANCEHALL AND ME PUT ALL INNA DIS.NUF LOVE AND RESPECT!!!!???? AND TO ALL WHO NUH VOTE FIMME, UNUH VOTE FI DANCEHALL SEDSPEED,MI GOOD WID DAT!! #DANCEHALLCYAASTALL!!!.” He wrote.
The fete saw Kartel’s friends applaud him, Busta Rhymes said “UP UP UP MI G!!!” while another fan joked “This shouldn’t have been a question, this answer toooo easy”.
The Gaza Boss was sentenced to life imprisonment in March 13, 2014 after being found guilty of the murder of Clive Williams.
He will be eligible for parole after spending 35 years behind bars.
