Joho scold residents as he threatens to close down Oldtown

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has reprimanded Muslim clerics who are  opening mosques for worshipers in Old Town against the directives that banned gathering as a measure to curb further spread of Covid-19.Joho donates masks

“Hizi ndizo fitina hatutaki. You are opening the mosque, then allowing people to sneak in. When the police come, you start talking badly, where is your mind, what kind of laziness is this?” he posed.

While scolding the Imams Joho  said that the government has taken mass testing to the residents in but they do not want to test for the virus saying that out of 28,000 people in old town only 130 people have been tested since the exercise began.

Mombasa County commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo said that people found opening the mosques will be arrested, arraigned in court and forced to quarantine.joho-scolds-residents

“Mombasa is epicenter of coronavirus. Please let us follow the rules. We will monitor how people come for mass testing.. If they are less, we will close old town and force you to do mass testing,” he added.

The number of positively confirmed Coronavirus cases in Kenya hit 411 on Friday after15 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded with four new deaths bringing the number of Covid-19 deaths to 21.
