Jubilee to pick Lakeview candidate through Interviews

Jubilee Party  has cancelled the planned nominations for the vacant Lake View ward seat in Naivasha after the top officials opted to pick their candidate through interviews.

The move has been opposed by seven aspirants who termed it as dictatorial and against the Constitution as they threatened to to court to stop the interviews slated for Tuesday 5.

They claim the party has settled on a candidate after pocketing Sh50,000 each aspirant paid as nomination fees.

The Lakeview seat fell vacant following the death of Karanja Mburu, the area MCA in a road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway in April.

Jubilee’s  Nakuru branch party chairman David Manyara confirmed that a five-man committee had been selected to oversee the interviews tomorrow since the party has no time and money to conduct nominations.

“The party headquarters has decided that there will be an interview tomorrow to pick our candidate as there is no time and resources for a nomination exercise,” Manyara said.

The ruling party is making the unpopular move after ODM withdrew from fielding a candidate for the seam to give Jubilee an advantage over other parties. Jubilee also withdrew from Msambweni parliamentary race to favor ODM which its nominations on October 1.

In Naivasha, where Lakeview is situated, MP Jayne Kihara is at odds with the party’s Secretary General Raphael Tuju for plotting moves to kick out DP William Ruto from the party.

Kihara is a die hard ally of the DP who is against the ruling party not fielding candidates in favor of the opposition in mini polls across the country.

Tuju and Dp Ruto do not see eye to eye as the wars in Jubilee party intensifies.   Kihara said that they would not be cowed by Tuju.

While speaking in Naivasha, Hon. Kihara termed Tuju as a coward stranger who can’t kick them out of the troubled party.
