In what is set to raise eyebrows and get the rumour mills spinning, the president, either inadvertently, or in a deliberate act, gave Murang’a senator Irungu Kang’ata’s chances of reelection a huge boost after a decision in State House which came as breaking news in all major media houses.
Ever since his ouster as Chief Whip, Senator Kang’ata has not only joined Ruto’s wing of Jubilee popularly known as Tanga Tanga, but has become one of the president’s most fierce critics.
So deteriorated has the relationship between Kang’ata and the president become, that when Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria was arrested recently, the Murang’a senator claimed that his arrest was political and instigated by the government due to the forthcoming Juja by-election.

However, just yesterday, President Uhuru Kenyatta revoked the appointment of Kembi Gituri to the Kemsa board.
He has instead appointed Mary Mwadime as the chairperson of the board.
Kembi Gitura is the immediate Murang’a senator, and has been considered Kang’ata’s biggest opponent in the 2022 polls.
In a Gazette notice dated April, the president said that Mwadime’s term in office will start on April 30 for a period of three years.
Last month, a Senate report accused the Board of Kemsa of failing to oversee the operations of the management in the procurement of Covid-19 items.
The report blamed suspended CEO Jonah Manjari for having single-handedly run the show at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority leading to the Sh7.63 billion scandal.
The report by the Senate Health Committee called for an investigation of senior Kemsa officials for their role in the lost funds.
The committee report examined allegations regarding irregularities in the procurement of pharmaceutical equipment and products by Kemsa
“It was clear the role of the board of Kemsa is to have oversight over the Authority. It is required to provide strategic and policy leadership to the Authority and further provide budgetary oversight over the Authority,” the report read.
