Deputy President Dr. William Ruto will on Wednesday lead Kenya Kwanza Alliance campaignS in Kisii to neutralize the small gains Raila Odinga made when he campaigned in the county three days.
The DP will lead a series of rallies across three Sub counties, of Nyamache in Bobasi Constituency, Kenyenya in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency and Itierio in Bonchari Constituency as the battle to wrestle Odinga out of Kisii rages on.
Ruto is taking over Kisii as Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga continues to camp in Ukambani region where former VP Kalonzo Musyoka’s confusion caused many damages and cracks.
The ODM leader will lead Azimio campaigns in Kitui County where governor Charity Ngilu is struggling to recapture her seat with his tour of Ukambani being full of drama and setbacks.
While campaigning in Makueni yesterday, Odinga’s host governor Kivutha Kibwana had a rough time addressing an irate crowd that heckled him to shut up.
Kibwana’s attempts to address the crowd in his local Kikamba dialect was also unsuccessful even after he switched to Kiswahili to sell Odinga’s candidature, all were in vain.
But this is not Ruto’s first visit to Kisii which boasts of an industrious population that relies on subsistence agriculture, vegetable farming, small-scale trade, dairy farming, tea and coffee growing, commercial businesses and soapstone carvings to thrive.
Kenya Kwanza’s campaigned in the region last month with their message being heavy on economy as the principals drum up support for the bottom up economic model.
The concept whose blue print aims to promote investments of ordinary Kenyans and empowering them financially to expand the country’s tax base and spur the economy is gaining traction with many ordinary Kenyans.
Kisii County has a thriving soapstone carving industry which can be anchored in bottom-up economic framework which is rich on programmes that promote investments and financial instruments that target millions who are unemployed, hustler enterprises like the boda boda industry and farmer groups.
Dr. Ruto had chaired economic forums in Kisii and the neighboring county of Nyamira last moth to woo voters as he identified economic areas and activities to prioritize in his attempts to fix the ruined economy and create employment.
