All passenger flights travelling from India will not be allowed entry into Kenya for the next 14 days, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has announced.
This ban, which takes effect from Saturday midnight, comes following the huge surge in COVID-19 infections and deaths in the South Asian country.
CS Mutahi Kagwe further announced that all passengers arriving into Kenya will undergo mandatory COVID-19 testing and those who test positive will be put under mandatory quarantine.
Kenya now joins a number of other countries among them the UK, France, Canada, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Oman and Singapore that have either banned travel to and from India.
The second wave of COVID-19 infection has seen India record at least 300,000 cases and at least 2,000 deaths on a daily basis in the past few days.
On Wednesday, the country recorded 360,960 new cases and 3,293 fatalities pushing the country’s death toll to 201,187.
