Kenyan envoy in DRC to be fired once Ruto takes power, Ahmednasir declares

Kenya’s ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) George Masafu alongside Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi

City Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has promised harsh retribution to Kenya’s ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Dr George Masafu following his earlier statement condemning recent remarks made by Deputy President William Ruto pertaining to the Central African nation’s dairy sector.

Speaking via social media on Wednesday, 16th February 2022, the seasoned Senior Counsel claimed that the letter by the Kenyan Embassy in the DRC was petty and undiplomatic.

The constitutional lawyer further added that as a result of his act of distancing Kenya from Ruto’s reckless remarks, Dr George Masafu successfully put his job on the line in case Ruto takes over power after the August polls.

“Petty and undiplomatic,” he wrote in the first part of the tweet.

“On 9th September 2022, Dr Masafu you will be recalled back to Nairobi, InshaAllah,” he added.

In the afternoon statement signed in Kinsasha, Dr Masafu, noted that the remarks by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party leader had triggered negative reactions from the business community and members of the general public in DRC.

The Kenyan embassy, however, distanced itself from the remarks stating that the two nations share a deep and respectful historical relationship that dates back to when they both gained independence.

Masafu added that the matter had been escalated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kenya which was working on resolving the situation through diplomatic channels.

The ambassador similarly underscored that Kenya and DRC have maintained strong bilateral relationships over the years and as such, the DP’s remarks should not be interpreted as Kenya’s owing to the fact that they are isolated.

“Kenya is confident that these relations will be entrenched through Government-to-government frameworks and people to people partnerships that have been built in the last years,” he said.
