Kenyan serial killer facing 17 counts of capital murder in US

A Kenyan-born man living in the US has been handed three more capital murders after he was charged for killing 22 grandmothers before he took away with their jewellery in Dallas, Texas.

Billy Chemirmir 48, is now facing 17 counts of capital murder and two counts of attempted capital murder in Dallas and Collin counties of the Texas.

The suspect is also linked in seven other deaths, bringing the total to 24 deaths in North Texas including the deaths of Joyce Abramowitz, Doris Wasserman and Margaret White.

Chemirmir is accused of killing the three at The Tradition-Prestonwood, a luxury senior living complex in Dallas. The three had previously been  identified as possible victims through civil lawsuits against the complex.

Abramowitz was killed in July 2016 after she reported her missing jewelry box to police in April. The box was stolen while she was on vacation.

White died in August 2016 while Wasserman died in December 2017.

The executor of White’s estate, Paul Wright, noticed her apartment was missing her fine jewelry including a wedding ring.

The killer’s lawyer, Phillip Hayes argued that that a lot of the evidence provided against Chemirmir is circumstantial.

“It seems like every unexplained death they come up with, they’re pinning on him,” Hayes told Dallas news.
