Kenya’s Covid-19 vaccination hits 1 million mark – KBC

A total of 1,005,509 persons have so far been vaccinated against the Covid-19 disease countrywide. 

Of these, total first doses are 978,127 while total 2nd doses are 27,382 with proportion of adults fully vaccinated is less than 1%.

In a statement Tuesday, Health Cabinet Secretary (CS), Mutahi Kagwe said further that a total of 1,125 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,895 patients are under Home Based Isolation and Care program.

” 111 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 27 of whom are on ventilatory support and 66 on supplemental oxygen. 18 patients are under observation. Another 98 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 91 of them in general wards and 7 in High Dependency Units (HDU), he added. 

The CS noted that 433 people have tested positive for the disease, from a sample size of 4,479 tested in the last 24 hours bringing the positivity rate to 9.7%.

” From the cases 415 are Kenyans while 18 are foreigners. 247 are males and 186 females. The youngest is a two-month-old infant while the oldest is 98 years old. Total confirmed positive cases are now 173,072 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,840,889.” He added.

In terms of County distribution; Kisumu 129, Nairobi 84, Siaya 24, Mombasa 24, Trans Nzoia 23, Kericho 21, Uasin Gishu 16, Nakuru 14, Makueni 11, Kiambu 11, Kisii 9, Homa Bay 8, Nyamira 8, Kajiado 7, Bomet 6, Bungoma 5, Baringo 4, Busia 3, Garissa 3, Kakamega 3, Kilifi3, Kwale 2, Machakos 2, Marsabit 2, Meru 2, Narok 2, Nyeri 2, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Embu 1, Kirinyaga 1, Laikipia 1 and Murang’a 1.

 In terms of Sub County distribution, the 129 cases in Kisumu are from Kisumu Central (59), Kisumu West (27), Kisumu East (20), Nyando and Seme (7) cases each, Nyakach (5), Muhoroni (4). In Nairobi, the 84 cases are from Westlands (8), Langata and Roysambu (7) cases each, Kamukunji, Kasarani, Kibra and Ruaraka (6) cases each, Dagoretti North, Embakasi East, Embakasi West and Makadara (5) cases each, Embakasi Central, Embakasi South and Starehe (4) cases each, Mathare (3), Embakasi North (2), Dagoretti South (1).

In Siaya, the 24 cases are from Rarieda (15), Alego-Usonga (6), Ugunja (2), Bondo (1). In Mombasa, the 24 cases are from Mvita (7), Jomvu and Kisauni (6) cases each, Likoni (3), Changamwe (2). In Trans Nzoia, the 23 cases are from Saboti (9), Cherangany (6), Kiminini (5), Endebess (2), Kwanza (1).

In Kericho, the 21 cases are from Ainamoi (12), Belgut (4), Bureti (3), Kipkelion East (2). In Uasin Gishu, the 16 cases are from Turbo (6), Ainabkoi and Moiben (3) cases each, Kesses and Soy (2) cases each. In Nakuru, the 14 cases are from Nakuru West (11), Naivasha (2), Njoro (1). In Makueni, the 11 cases are from Kibwezi West (6), Makueni (5). In Kiambu, the 11 cases are from Ruiru (4), Kabete, Kiambaa and Kikuyu (2) cases each, Limuru (1). In Kisii, the 9 cases are from Kitutu Chache South (8), Bobasi (1). In Homa Bay, the 8 cases are from Homa Bay Town and Suba North (2) cases each, Karachuonyo, Mbita, Ndhiwa and Rachuonyo South (1) case each. In Nyamira, the 8 cases are from Nyamira (5), Manga (2), Nyamira North (1). In Kajiado, the 7 cases are from Kajiado East (3), Kajiado North and Loitokitok (2) cases each.

The 6 cases in Bomet are from Bomet Central, Konoin and Sotik (2) cases each. In Bungoma, the 5 cases are from Kanduyi (3) Tongaren and Webuye West (1) case each. In Baringo the 4 cases are from Baringo Central (3), Mogotio (1). In Busia, all the 3 cases are from Bunyala, Butula and Teso South (1) case each.

All the 3 cases in Garissa are from Dadaab. In Kakamega, the 3 cases are from Butere, Lurambi and Mumias West (1) case each. The 3 cases in Kilifi are from Rabai (2), Malindi (1). All the 2 cases in Kwale are from Msambweni. In Machakos, the 2 cases are from Athi River and Kalama (1) case each. All the cases in Marsabit are from Saku (2). In Meru, the 2 cases are from Buuri and Imenti North (1) case each. In Narok, the 2 cases are from Narok North and Transmara East (1) case each.

All the cases in Nyeri are from Nyeri Central (2). The case in Elgeyo Marakwet is from Keiyo North. The case in Embu is from Manyatta. The case in Kirinyaga is from Kirinyaga East. The case in Laikipia is from Laikipia East and the case in Murangj’a is from Murang’a South.

Distribution of positive cases by age is as follows; 0-9 years (18), 10-19 years (27), 20-29 years (67), 30-39 (105) 40-49 (75) 50-59 (54) 60 years and above (87).

The CS also noted that 395 patients have recovered from the disease, 262 from the Home Based and Isolation Care program while 133 are from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries now stand at 118,621 of whom 86,154 are from Home Based Care and Isolation program, while 32,467 are from various health facilities.

 Unfortunately, Kagwe said 18 people have been reported to succumb to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting Facility Record Audits on diverse dates in the month of April and May. This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 3,326.
