A section of Kieleweke Members of Parliament from Mount Kenya region have accused Deputy President and his allies of misleading Kenyans over his plans to revive the economy of the country.
DP Ruto went for a three-day retreat at the Maasai Mara game reserve with economist David Ndii and a section of his allies from Mount Kenya region to discuss economic issues affecting Kenya and the 2022 succession politics.
From their meeting, Ndii was expected to present a detailed analysis of the country’s economic recovery plan.
Kieni Member of Parliament who is also President Uhuru Kenyatta’s confidant Kanini Kega has told off Ruto and his allies from misleading Kenyans about their plans to revive the economy of the country.
The Kieleweke lawmaker stated that the head of state is still the Mount Kenya’s kingpin and the only leader fit to revive the economy of the country as the President.
“There can never be another person able to negotiate for Mt Kenya unless it is the President or his appointee. All the others are misguided or are chasing after selfish interests.
“They have already declared support for Ruto and now they are pinning him with demands. Very interesting,” Kega stated.
However, Ruto’s ally and Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua warned Kega and Kieleweke lawmakers to desist from interfering with Tangatanga politics.
He urged them to negotiate with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga and other politicians of their choice.
This is after Ruto had met former CBK Governor Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u at his home in Karen, Nairobi County who pledged to help him develop the new economic model through the African Economic Research Consortium.
Ndii has been accusing the President of focusing on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) rather than reviving the economy.
“My understanding is that Ruto wants to challenge the politics of ethnic mobilisation such as the ethnic kingpin model proposed in BBI with politics of the economy hence his reaching out to economic and other policy experts,” Ndii stated.
Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichungwa had disclosed that they want to do a two-part negotiation with Ruto, economic revival and then political interest.
“We want to do a two-part negotiation, economic revival and then political interest. Who fits in to push implementation of that economic revival agenda,” Ichungwa stated.
