Kilifi Rep Urges Quick Probe into Vipingo Land Title

Getrude Mbeyu, the Kilifi Woman representative, has urged authorities to expedite investigations into the validity of a title deed for an 800-acre piece of land in Vipingo, Kilifi County.

The land, which has sisal plantations, is disputed by the local community and Centum Investment Company.

The community members have claimed that the lease to the land has expired and last week invaded the land and erected temporary structures.

The community members presented a title deed to the land during a meeting with Kilifi county commissioner Josephat Biwot, and the MoU signed between the community and Centum officials awaits verification by authorities.

“Inasmuch as we call for patience, the authorities need to make sure it does not take any longer than necessary to verify the documents that need to be verified,” Mbeyu said.

Mbeyu stressed the importance of swift verification of the documents, stating that any delay could increase tension.

The matter will be resolved by the result of the verification processes, and Mbeyu has vowed to support her people.

“The locals have been living on the land for years. Centum came the other day. It is not likely that they came and found no one on the land,” said the woman rep.

The Lands PS Nixon Korir and the National Land Commission will meet to come up with the way forward.

Kilifi County has been attracting investors, with real estate companies rushing to invest there.
