Governor James Ongwae’s administration issued notice Wednesday afternoon directing all county officials to work from home. For an initial period of one week, county offices will be closed.

In a communique released by County Secretary Patrick Lumumba, “it has been directed that Chief officers identify essential staff and personnel who will minimally manage essential services for one week starting 9th June 2021 to 16th June 2021”

The move comes after a number of officers in the county including County Executive Committee Members tested positive for covid-19 illustrating the extremity of the state of affairs.

Lumumba disclosed that the County’s Treasury Department, for instance, has recorded positive cases alone in the last few days.

“We are in receipt of a letter from the Ministry of Health indicating a high positivity in the lake Region Counties. It has also been confirmed that Kisii County’s rate of positivity is on an upward trend,” Lumumba said in the statement
