The High Court in Kisumu has sentenced twenty-three-year-old Arnold Ochieng Omollo to forty-five years in prison for the murder of two minors. Omollo pleaded guilty to two counts of murder involving his younger brother and his nephew in a case that has shocked the residents of Nyakach Sub-County.
The court established that the killings took place between November 25 and 26, 2024, at Kamango Village. The victims were both under the age of ten and were attacked while they slept in their home. Justice Joe M. Omido described the act as premeditated and particularly brutal during the sentencing session.

Forensic Evidence and the Nature of the Fatal Attack
Investigations into the double murder revealed that the accused used crude weapons to carry out the attack. Recovery teams found a metallic hoe and a wooden handle at the crime scene, which served as key exhibits in the case.
A postmortem examination later confirmed that both children died from severe head injuries caused by penetrating trauma to the brain. Prosecutor Mercy Muema told the court that the victims were completely vulnerable and incapable of defending themselves at the time of the assault.
She emphasized that Omollo had a direct duty of care toward the children, which he violently betrayed. The prosecution further noted a total lack of provocation or remorse from the accused following the incident.
Judicial Ruling and the Deterrent Nature of the Sentence
Justice Omido sentenced Omollo to forty-five years for each count, with the terms set to run concurrently. The prison term will be calculated for December 18, 2024, which marks the date the accused first appeared in court. In his ruling, the judge emphasized that the punishment should serve as a stern warning against similar crimes in society.
He stated that the sentence reflects the need to protect minors, especially those under the care of family guardians. The court relied on strong prosecution evidence and recovered exhibits to secure the conviction following the guilty plea. This ruling brings to a close a tragic chapter for the Kamango Village community as the convict begins his lengthy term behind bars.
