Kisumu policewoman who shot husband over Sh50 charged with attempted murder

A policewoman who grabbed national headlines after shooting her husband in Kisumu has been charged with attempted murder.

Constable Maureen Awuor appeared before Winam Law Courts Senior Resident Magistrate Fatuma Rashid on Tuesday where she denied the charge.

The court was told that on the 5th day of July 2020 at Dago area within Kisumu, the 35-year-old officer unlawfully attempted to cause the death of his 28-year-old husband Victor Odhiambo.

According to Kisumu East sub-county Police Commander Mwenda Musyimi, Constable Awuor, who is stationed at Kasagam Police Station, came home with an Ak47 rifle and shot Mr Odhiambo twice; on the right side of the head and ear.

Witnesses told reporters that the couple, who have been together for three years, got into a disagreement after the husband gave their househelp Ksh50 for lunch without consulting the officer.

Magistrate Fatuma released the suspect on a Ksh.500,000 cash bail or an alternative of Ksh.2 Million bond.

The matter will come up for mention on August 21, 2020, and heard on September 30.
