KLM Royal Dutch Airline, the flag carrier of the Netherlands, is set to launch direct flights into Mombasa beginning October 31st 2021.

The two flights a week will be on Thursday and Sunday between Amsterdam and Mombasa. Ticket bookings for these flights begun on May 26th, 2021.

KLM new destinations

Apart from Mombasa, KLM will also begin flying to other new destinations between October 31st 2021 and March 26th 2022. They are Orlando, Cancun, Bridgetown, Port of Spain and Phuket.

This ties in with KLM’s first expanding network, where recovery will be quickest, offering customers the broadest possible choice of destinations.

The Mombasa route will be served by the Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

This aircraft type will also be used to operate flights to Orlando in Florida (four times a week) and to the Mexican beach resort of Cancun (three times a week).

The Airbus A330 will fly customers to Bridgetown (Barbados, three times a week) and Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago, three times a week).

The Thai island of Phuket will be served with four flights a week, operating Boeing 777-300 equipment.

Mombasa will be combined with Nairobi on the return journey to Amsterdam.

This also applies to Orlando and Miami. Phuket will be served both to and from Amsterdam via Kuala Lumpur. Bridgetown and Port of Spain will be combined, and Cancun will be a non-stop connection.

According to KLM General Manager for East Africa, Arthur Dieffenthaler said the flights to Mombasa would mainly target leisure travellers.

Dieffenthaler said a growing number of visitors come into Mombasa from the rest of the world due to the unique experiences offered by the beach destination.

He added that KLM would be offering travel experience to regular and first-time visitors to East Africa from its hub in Amsterdam.
