KRA awards socialite Anne Waiguru for tax complience

Kirinyaga County Government was recognized by the Kenya Revenue Authority, whose officials visited Governor Anne Waiguru’s office with goodies, for being the best in tax compliance on November 21, 2019.

Speaking at Governor Waiguru’s office in Kutus, KRA Central Region Coordinator Tobias Konyango, commended her for ensuring that the county fully complied with the laid down tax regulations.

A press statement from Kirinyaga County communications office seen by Kenyans.co.ke stated that he urged other counties and public entities to emulate Kirinyaga’s example, adding that it was important for counties to collect and account for all the monies collected since the government depended on such taxes to build the nation.

Konyango extended an invitation to other devolved units, explaining that KRA was readily available to assist in issues that could hinder tax compliance.

While appreciating the recognition, Governor Waiguru stated it was a great honour to be ranked number one, adding that it was as a result of her consistent commitment to ensuring that the required standards were set and maintained.

She acknowledged that it was not an easy task but her team worked hard to ensure that compliance to the letter was achieved.

“We are happy to be a shining example for the rest of the counties and I want to thank my team for delivering these results,” she expressed.

She noted that her team would be partnering with KRA to increase revenue collection, and that the county was committed to maintaining a clean tax record.

KRA has managed to reduce the cost of revenue collection to one per cent compared to average 20-30 per cent in many government institutions.

Kirinyaga County paid Ksh518 million to KRA as taxes collected during 2018/2019 financial year.
