Kenya Revenue Authority has announced a temporary suspension on a notice to tax various commodities such as bottled water, juices, sodas, non-alcoholic beverages and other commodities like cosmetics.
According to the budget Kenya Gazette Notice issued earlier, the listed goods were to be affixed with excise stamps effective from the 1st of September 2019.
This is regardless of whether they are imported or manufactured locally.
This comes as a temporary relief to manufacturers as the new tax would have increased their production costs; as well as consumers, who would have raised paid more for the listed goods.
