Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has revisited the events at the Bomas of Kenya on August 15 and said he has learned a lesson.
The senator was caught in the middle of chaotic scenes that erupted at the national tallying centre shortly before IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati declared William Ruto the President-elect.
“Not all that hurts you is evil. Sometimes pain teaches us and protects us,” Ledama said in a social media post on Christmas Day.
The senator previously said he was lucky to get out of the chaos alive because of his heavy body physique.
“I end the year much wiser than before,” he said.
Ledama recently claimed he missed out on the presidential state commendation on Jamhuri Day because of the chaos at Bomas which he denied any involvement.
He claimed members of the Kenya Kwanza camp in the joint secretariat on conferment of honours “engineered” his removal from the list of nominees.
“I never knew that people can be very petty. Everybody saw what happened. I never caused any violence at Bomas,” Ledama said during a TV interview.
The fracas broke out after a section of Azimio leaders and agents present at the Bomas attempted to block Chebukati from announcing the presidential results.
They claimed their leader Raila Odinga had been rigged out and that the final results of the presidential results could not be verified.
Chairs were thrown and punches nearly exchanged as both sides of the political divide fought to gain control of the main dais where the results were to be announced.
Police intervened and restored normalcy before the results were declared.
“It’s not been an easy journey, right now two of my commissioners and the CEO are injured and they are being treated,” Chebukati said before announcing the results.
Moments before that, four commissioners, three of whom have since resigned, disowned the results saying they were opaque.
Former vice chair Juliana Cherera, commissioners Justus Nyang’aya, Francis Wanderi and Irene Masit addressed the media at Serena Hotel saying Chebukati was acting alone.
A tribunal led by Justice Aggrey Muchelule was formed by Ruto to try the four commissioners over their dissent.
