More than 2,000 delegates from Western Kenya held a consultative meeting a head of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) forum scheduled for Saturday in Kakamega.
The meeting brought together elected leaders and professionals from across the political divide who resolved to expand the secretariat tasked with organizing the January 18 meeting at Bukhungu Stadium.
But missing from the meeting were ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi and Bungoma Senator, Moses Wetang’ula of Ford Kenya.
Ford Kenya Secretary-General Eseli Simiyu and some representatives from ANC party led by Kibisu Kabatesi, a close ally of Mudavadi, attended the meeting that meant to iron out differences, suspicion and infighting among local leaders.
A number of lawyers also attended the meeting to leaders present through the contents of the BBI report.
Five governors – Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), Patrick Khaemba (Trans Nzoia), Wilbur Ottichilo (Vihiga), Sospeter Ojaamong’ (Busia) and host Wycliffe Wangamati were present at the meeting.
Devolution Secretary Eugene Wamalwa also attended the meeting, including Senators Amos Wako (Busia), George Khaniri (Vihiga) and a host of MCAs and former MPs from the former Western Province.
Some leaders from the region including Senator Moses Wetangula has dismissed the planned meeting as an ODM affair.
