Luo council of elders welcome Uhuru’s state visit to Nyanza

The Luo council of elders has added their voice on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s state visit to Nyanza region ahead of Madaraka Day celebration on Tuesday.

They said the visit is as a result of the truce between the President and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

One of the council chairmen, Mzee Nyandiko Ongadi, said the elders have joined leaders in four Nyanza counties to welcome the head of state.

The President is expected to commission various development projects in the region.

Mzee Ongadi said that the region has been lagging behind in terms of development because it was neglected by the previous regime.

Speaking to Radio Ramogi, Mzee Ongadi applauded President Kenyatta for choosing Kisumu to be the host of this year’s Madaraka Day celebration saying his visit will boost the economy.

He said a number of national government projects that have been lined up for commissioning by the head of state in Kisumu and Siaya counties, which are key to the region, and will improve the living standard of residents.

Mzee Ongadi called upon residents in the region to ensure they comply with the government directives to stay at home during Madaraka Day celebrations and follow the proceedings on various media platforms to curb the spread of coronavirus.

He further appealed to residents to continue supporting the handshake between President Kenyatta and Mr. Odinga for more development in the area.
