Luos Are Not Your Saviors

HANDSHAKE: Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta when the two agreed to work together in March 2018

There’s a false narrative that has been going on since March 2018 when Raila Odinga the leader of the Luos crossed over from opposition to join President Uhuru Kenyatta in government.

Many people felt shortchanged and till today, they are accusing Raila Odinga of being a conman, stating that he received money in order to join Uhuru and that he calls the shots in terms of ‘cleaning’ all corrupt leaders.

Raila Odinga has been accused of ‘making clean’ through the handshake the corrupt UhuRuto government. He was also accused of cleaning Waiguru, Mike Sonko, Babu Owino and Okoth Obado.

Raila doesn’t have any mandate in the corrupt Jubilee Government. How can he be the prosecutor and the judge? Huh?

Yesterday, a video circulating on social media purportedly calling the ODM leader out on his friendship with questionable characters whom as soon as he meets them, their tainted past disappears was shared by questionable activist Boniface Mwangi making the narrative go viral.

“Raila Odinga is the best cleaning detergent in Kenya. He legitimised the most corrupt government in our history for a fee. Thief, rapist, murderer? Don’t worry, pay a fee, shake @RailaOdinga’s hand and your “crimes” will be forgiven. Thank you @OBurrows for this excellent piece”, Mwangi wrote.

He was soon corrected by Former ODM director of communications Seth Odongo alias Dikembe Disembe, who wrote as follows:

“Before he ‘legitimized the most corrupt government in our history for a fee’, he took them to court, had their rigged election nullified, demanded minimum electoral reforms, pulled out of a show repeat poll, swore himself in in protest etc…which of these events did you join? ??‍♂️”, Disembe fired back.

Kericho County Senator Aaron Cheruiyot also repeated that same bashing of Raila.

” I didn’t know we still had journalists like Olive Burrows in Kenya. Many turned to brown envelope chasing and cheap apologists of the system but lo and behold, a shining star in the dark night emerged. That Mwosho Mmoja story needs to be taught in all Media schools. Hats off”, he said.

He was soon stopped by Silas Jakakimba

“The problem with most of young folks like you is one: the false belief that salvaging Kenya from ALL the ills of corruption, bad governance, tribalism etc is SINGULARLY a @RailaOdinga burden. Raila has done his bit, still doing the much he can. Stop tweeting & get out of comfort!”, Jakakimba wrote.

As the sun sets on Raila Odinga’s political careers, it is well to note that the notion that Luos or rather Raila Odinga are the only ones who are mandated to fight for good governance is false.

Kenyans are cowards and thieves who love their hard earned meagre salaries looted, love to walk and jump over open sewers, love to be driven in delapidated privately owned public transport vehicles.

Kenyans are cowards and thieves whose minds have been corrupted to view fighters for social justice as enemies of the state. They’ve often viewed Luos as rowdy, stupid stone throwers who are not easy to control.

The answer that such have always been given is, in a tribal Kenya, it is better for another tribe to take over the opposition mantle and run with it.

Didn’t World renowned economist David Ndii remind you that if he scans the whole of Kenya, it is only the Luos who seems committed to the Kenyan dream since 1963. A dream to see all Kenyans get along together, prosperous together…yet all they’ve received even as Boniface Mwangi once wrote is that the ‘police turns into a militia once it reaches Luo Nyanza’.

Kenyans seems to forget the chastisement by Frantz Fanon that “Each generation must discover its mission, fulfill it or betray it, in relative opacity.”

Kenya’s population comprises of young people yet all they see is Raila should do this, Raila should do that instead of finding their own mission, the mission of this generation and run away with it.

It has become easier for them to rant on social media against Raila Odinga and not to join the generation of Jerotoch Seii to ask for energy justice, to read about the enslavement by Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) from Dr Wandia Njoya and Dr Caroline Mose and petition Parliament to stop its implementation. The Kenyan youth thinks about how he can join govt and steal like UhuRuto and come back to the neighborhood to ‘floss’ to his peers instead of joining hands to call for jobs and to do sit-ins outside KRA to stop taxing-to-death the few who have found little money to start business.

It is a pity, it is a shame that it is easier to call out a over 70 year old man as a conman yet you have sat there jobless and begging corporate Nairobi cartels for handouts in order to do hashtags.

Style up and stop blaming Raila, get out and chose a leader among yourselves as youths and start drafting your agenda.

Power is not given, power is taken.
