As the official technology and payments partner for the Kenyan Olympic team, Safaricom is committing Ksh 30 million in cash and in-kind contributions.

This includes travel insurance, airtime and data bundles for the athletes, as well as financial literacy workshops and casual wear for the athletes during their training camps.

The sponsorship grants Safaricom several exclusive rights, such as naming residential camps and training centers, running a competition to design a new mascot and providing financial literacy workshops during residential training camps.

“This sponsorship reflects our commitment to supporting our athletes by empowering them with technological and financial tools. Our athletes have worked hard to prepare for the Olympics, and our support ensures they are also well-prepared beyond the stadium,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom.

In partnership with Visa, the Worldwide Payment Technology Partner of the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, Safaricom will also send four Kenyans, along with a companion each, to Paris to support Team Kenya and experience the Olympics firsthand.

This partnership is a testament to the commitment of both Safaricom and Visa to fostering national pride and unity through sports.

Chad Pollock, Visa East Africa Vice President and General Manager, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting the benefits for M-PESA GlobalPay Virtual Visa Card customers and the commitment to making everyday transactions rewarding.
