A Kenyan soldier and a Nairobi based magistrate were among over 30 people arrested on Friday night partying beyond curfew hours in Nairobi.
The culprits were arrested when police raided a pub in Nairobi’s Embakasi area while on a drinking spree to mark the beginning of the Easter despite the government directive that all bars must shut to curb the spread of the COVID-19 disease.

Police reports indicate that officers raided the bar after a tip off from suspicious members of the public that the liqour joint was in operation against the daily dusk to dawn curfew.
The duo will now spend the Easter in police cells until Tuesday, April 14, when they will be arraigned in court.
Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi has condemned the incident with strongest term adding that court officials need resume duties to effectively serve Kenyans.
“If the magistrate is in “a weekend carousel” of 30 people; contravening directives on Covid-19. KMJA must apologise to Kenyans and its members should go back to work; not from home but in Court,” Havi said in a tweet.
The state on March 20, 2020, ordered bars and restaurants and entertainment joints to close earlier than usual.
The directive was issued by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe who said that all entertainment joints; bars and nightclubs must close down by 7:30pm effective until further notice.
“Our actions continue to be guided by the trends that we have observed in other countries. Evidence from other countries indicate that the number of infected persons increases dramatically following confirmation of the first case,” Kagwe said.
