Kisumu Law Courts chief magistrate Godfrey Hillary Oduor is died.
According to reports, Oduor was found dead in an apartment located within Nairobi’s South B Riverbank estate on Thursday, December 17.
His remains were discovered by a woman identified by the police as Njoki Muhia and who claimed to be his girlfriend and a tenant in the said house.
Njoki said he had returned from work on the fateful evening when he knocked the door but silence from inside welcomed her, prompting her to peep through the bedroom window.
“Upon checking, she saw her boyfriend namely Godfrey Hillary Oduor totally asleep but emitting foam on his mouth,” police said in a report.
The deceased had moved from his house in South C over rent issues.
The police report which was filed at the Industrial Area Police Station on the very day also confirmed the door was locked from inside.
The detectives who arrived at the scene broke into the house and found the judicial officer already dead.
The outgoing Chief Justice David Maraga expressed his condolences to the bereaved family.
“We are grateful for the time he served the Judiciary and pray that God grants his family to fortitude to bear this loss,” he stated.
Oduor was moved recently to Kisumu station from Nakuru county where he served briefly upon being transferred from Kiambu Law Courts.
In May 2018, the magistrate presided over a case in which controversial televangelist James Ng’ang’a was accused of killing a passenger by way of dangerous driving in Limuru.
Oduor acquitted the preacher on grounds that the prosecution had insufficient ground to prove its case against Ng’ang’a and three other suspects and dismissed the case.
