Magoha not closing schools despite corona ravage

Education CS Prof. George Magoha has stated that the government has no intentions to reclose schools even as the number of Covid-19 infections continues to spike.

Magoha also said that there should be no panic that the deadly virus can spread to children, arguing that no cases have been reported among young learners.

The CS spoke while inspecting the delivery of desks purchased under a Sh1.9 billion tender stimulus package at the Uhuru Gardens Primary School in Nairobi.

On Wednesday, The Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang who appeared before the National Assembly Committee on Education revealed that 33 teachers, 17 students and four non-teaching staff in 35 schools have caught the virus.

But tMagoha has instructed teachers and schools to remain calm till the Ministry of Health ensures that the learners are safe.

The CS also revealed that plans to conduct the national examinations KCPE and KCSE are still on course.

“We will let you know if we anything changes but as of now, the plan to conduct exams remain as planned,” he said.

Education Ministry intends to have KCPE exams conducted in March, while the KCSE exams are scheduled for April and May of 2021.
