Magoha to strip school heads the authority to manage the purse

Plans are in top gear at the ministry of education to strip the principals power to manage monies sent to the schools by the government. The proposal is championed by the no nonsense Education CS, Prof George Magoha.

The plan is expected to meet a fierce resistance from the principals and school heads and at the same time strike a serious debate in the public. The ministry aims to create a system that has more accountability and reduce parties with other vested interests as the Education CS will be granted powers to appoint managers of school funds.

This proposal has very high chances of sailing through and becoming written a law among those already governing how schools and government funds in schools are managed. Magoha is one of the best performing CSs after his predecessor Dr. Fred Matiangi who is now heading the Interior docket.

Jubilee administration has major transformations in the education sector, from introduction of a new curriculum, mandatory painting of school buses yellow, serious reduction in exam cheating and shortening that term and making December holidays longer among others.

There have been reports of funds being sent to schools but being mismanaged by school heads. This proposal therefore aims to have professionals manage such funds and ensure they used for what they are intended for or appropriately.
