Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa’s accomplices in the Sh 40 billion gun tender fraud case have registered a major win after the court slashed their cash bails.
Chrispin Oduor, Kennedy Oyoo, Daniel Otieno and Clifford Okoth who had initially been directed to pay Ksh1 million each will now pay Ksh200,000.
The accused had appealed to the court to review their bail terms, indicating that they were unable to raise the Ksh1 million bail that had been set.
”The respondents have only managed to secure Sh300,000 and Sh200,000 respectively to honour their bail terms. They are not in a position to raise more,” criminal lawyer Cliff Ombeta told the court.
One of the suspects, Otieno, had also told the court to practice leniency on him, saying that he suffers from Diabetes.
The four are accused of having conspired with Echesa to defraud foreigners by posing as government officials, charged with negotiating a military equipment deal.
