A man who used a piece of wood to cut his wife’s lips and brake one of her teeth following an argument has been jailed for six months after pleading guilty to the charges.
The couple was arguing over their daughter’s school fees.
Rodgers Wanyama Natembea was jailed on Monday by Kibera Senior Principal Magistrate Phillip Mutua who declined the wife’s request to withdraw the case.
The accused person was charged before Kibera Senior Principal Magistrate Phillip Mutua where he pleaded guilty to the charges.
According to the charge sheet, the accused person attacked Irine Nafula Wasike on February 1 in Kawangware Stage Two in Dagoretti Subcounty in Nairobi county.
Prosecutor Violet Kerubo told the court that the accused person had conflict with his wife on frequent occasions on issues related to their daughter’s school fees.
“After the complainant traveled back to Nairobi, she decided to sleep on their bed as she was exhausted. The accused person came back and vigorously tried to open the door with a piece of wood,” she told the court.
The prosecutor said that after the accused person spotted where the complainant was standing, he attacked her with the wood leaving her bleeding profusely.
“When Rodgers saw Irine behind the door, he passed the piece of wood through a broken door frame and hit her on the upper lips inflicting a deep cut on her lip. He broke her upper incisors too. The complainant was bleeding profusely and the neighbors came to her rescue,” the court heard.
The wife was taken to a nearby dispensary and treated while the accused was arrested and charged.
Natembea pleaded guilty to the charges and the woman appealed to court to have the case withdrawn.
