Man who gave Boniface Mwangi a confidential letter with names of people who killed Jacob Juma has been detained by the police.
A certain Douglas Nyakundi phoned Boniface Mwangi claiming he was from the office of the Deputy President and that he had confidential letter containing names of people who were involved in the assassination of Jacob Juma.
He also claimed he heard credible information on a plan meant to assassinate the Rights Activist in a road accident.
The slain businessman was shot dead while he was driving his Mercedes along Ngong road on May 5 2016; Boniface Mwangi and Cyrus Jirongo linked DP William Ruto to the death of Jacob Juma sparking a fierce exchange of words and subsequently a lawsuit.
Douglas Nyakundi claimed he was a messenger in the DP’s office and had been given the letter by his boss whom he only identified as Rono.
The man was arrested on Wednesday November 30 after Boniface Mwangi gave the police the recorded telephone conversation he had with him; Nyakundi had asked Boniface to deposit money into his bank account for Rono to give him more details.
Police presented Nyakundi in court today where senior principal magistrate, Teresiah Nyangena, directed that he should be detained for four days.
The police had asked the court for more time to investigate the matter as they try to establish whether Nyakundi really works at the DP’s office.
The accused is expected to be charged with attempted extortion and defamation of the Deputy President if indeed it’s established that he fabricated the whole story.
