Tusker FC Head Coach Robert Matano has urged the Sports Ministry to allow full resumption of all sporting activities in Kenya.

The tactician made the call after draft fixtures for the 2020/21 FKF Premier League season were released on Wednesday by the Football Kenya Federation.

The 2020/21 season is scheduled to kick off on November 20 and end on July 21, 2021, subject to permission by the Sports and Health ministries.

But only the leagues champions Gor Mahia have been allowed by the Sports Ministry to train in preparation for the unconfirmed continental assignments when other FKF clubs are training in secrecy.

Clubs playing the country’s top league have been out of action since the sporting event were shut in March when covid-19 broke out.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed shocked the sporting industry when she announced that all contact sports will remain suspended until further notice.

She made the announcement when FKF was planning to start their new season this month with the promotion play-offs between Kisumu AllStars and Vihiga United (October 7 and 11) were scheduled to welcome football action back.

The fixtures were postponed.

A ray of hope was however given by last Friday’s international friendly match between Harambee Stars and Zambia’s Chipolopolo at Nyayo National Stadium.

Matano witnessed Tusker suffer a humiliating 5-2 defeat to Gor Mahia in their opening match last season  which prompted his call on the government to give all teams fair treatment in terms of preparation.  Tusker will be facing K’Ogalo on November 21.

“They should now allow teams to start training fully. There is no sense for us to continue training under restrictions yet the fixtures are out. How are we going to prepare for the new season? If Gor Mahia were given permission to train, what about the rest?”

Matano acknowledged that the perennial league champions have a continental duty but emphasized that even teams like Tusker that only play in the local league need to be ready to compete.
