The Ministry of Interior Security is set to ban officers from the National Police Service(NPS) from getting married amongst themselves to prevent cases of officer couples killing each other.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said the directive will be effected by July this year.
Speaking today during the official opening ceremony of direct entry cadet inspectors course at the National Police College Kiganjo Campus in Nyeri, asked the ministry to form rules banning police officers from having intimate relations with colleagues.
“We will adopt a system similar to that of the Kenya Defence Forces which bars the soldiers from getting into intimate relationships with their colleagues,” he said.
According to Matiang’i, it will be illegal for a police officer to date or get married to a fellow law enforcement officer and f it happens that two police officers fall in love, then one has to leave the Service.
This comes weeks after police constable attached to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi’s office died in a shooting incident alongside his wife, who was a traffic officer.
Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai said preliminary investigations showed the General Service Unit (GSU) officer, Hudson Wakise, shot and killed his wife, Pauline Wakasa, before turning the gun on himself.
