Staff at Kenya’s 100-bed isolation facility for coronavirus have gone on a go-slow because they don’t have the training to handle the virus and the government doesn’t have mitigation measures to protect their families.
For weeks on end, the government of Kenya was put under scrutiny by the citizens for failing to suspend flights from coronavirus affected countries especially China; stating that the government is prepared.
The new Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe even taunted the virus ‘bring it on, we are prepared”.
Now the cracks are beginning to show.
Corruption
Corruption has been the hallmark of this government, doctors went on strike 4 years ago to ask for better working conditions but the government instead brought in Cubans.
Though Covid-19 has bo specialised people to handle it the world over, Kenya’s culture of corruption makes it worse.
The leaders in government who are used to being flown to foreign countries for treatment are now in a catch-22 situation. If they fall sick, they have to be treated here with the weak infrastructure that they have been avoiding to ammend for years.
Mbagathi from social media
Here is what Kenyans are saying about Mbagathi Hospital in the media.

Countries are banning flights from #Covid19 countries landing in their countries but your Minister is asking them to come saying Mbagathi Hospital is ready to handle Corona Virus. Europe with their 5 star hospitals are struggling but our Minister says Mbagathi is ready. Mbagathi!

The beginning of an end. The government has played medics and teachers for a long time. The go slow at Mbagathi hospital will make things more difficult! Btw Mutahi Kagwe is a wise gentleman. The man who brought us fast Internet and wifi can't not fail on this. Up to you sir
