Nairobi’s Eastleigh North MCA Mohamed Dabar has been causing quite a commotion in the assembly with his unusual behaviour.
Known for dozing off and emitting loud snores during meetings, Dabar has been a source of irritation among his peers.
They say that his constant snoring, heavy breathing and repeated farts in the air are making it difficult for others to breathe.
Many of the MCAs have grown weary of Dabar’s habits and avoid sitting close to him in the assembly.
But his peculiarities do not end there, as his dietary habits have also attracted attention.
Possessing a hearty appetite, Dabar has been observed consuming an amount of food that could feed three grown men in a single sitting.
However, his penchant for boiled camel meat is what has truly sparked curiosity and gossip, particularly within the Somali community.
Adorned with a bald pate and a chin-strap beard, Dabar is a familiar sight on the streets of Eastleigh and the city center, near the county assembly.
At the ripe age of 33, Dabar’s aspirations for a career in politics began last year when he first ventured into the MCA race.
Some say he’s sleeping to “dream big”, but others argue that his behaviour is disruptive to the assembly proceedings.
Dabar has also been likened to Erling Halaand, the towering Manchester City FC striker who currently tops the leaderboard as the premier league’s top scorer.
But while Halaand flaunts a six-pack, Dabar boasts a one-sack.
Dabar is known for his expensive taste in clothing, and it is said that he sleeps on a designer bed, although the bed seems to be serving its purpose inadequately, unless it is only for his nocturnal solo gymnastics.
Not much is known about Dabar’s familial and business life, but sources indicate that his campaign for election was financed by affluent Somali tycoons in Eastleigh, who wanted him in the assembly to advocate for their rights and safeguard their interests.
Due to his gigantic physique, he was the community’s preferred candidate for the assembly.
He is one of many Somalis in Eastleigh, which is an enclave of the community that has become a thriving commercial hub over the years.
Despite his formidable size, Dabar is evidently out of his depth when it comes to participating in debates in the chamber that he has turned into his makeshift bedroom.
With calls for his dismissal from the assembly, the public is anxiously awaiting the next move from the assembly and the MCA himself in this political comedy that has been making headlines.
