The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) will on Monday commemorate the World Press Freedom Day in Nairobi.
MCK has partnered with Communications Authority of Kenya, Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA), Open Society of Kenya(OSIEA), Canadian High Commission, National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), Transparency International (TI), Katiba Institute, Girl Child Network and Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) for this year’s commemoration.
The theme for this year’s celebration is Information as a Public Good which is a call to affirm the importance of cherishing information and exploring what can be done in the production, distribution, and reception of content to strengthen journalism, and to advance transparency and empowerment while leaving no one behind.
This year’s celebration coincides with the 30th year anniversary of the 1991 Windhoek Declaration for the Development of a Free, Independent and Pluralistic Press, which led the UN to proclaim World Press Freedom Day in 1993.
