Missing K24 Journalist Found Dead

A K24 TV journalist who had been reported missing for nearly seven days has been found dead in a suspected suicide case.

Molo Sub-county Police Commander Joseph Karanja yesterday said the 34-year-old George Kori, a cameraman, might have hanged himself but investigations are ongoing.

The journalist went missing on May 19, leaving his phone at his parents’ home and was found by members of the public with his body dangling from a tree.

“Occasionally, he complained of the tough economic times, especially over the Sh300,000 loan he was servicing,” A close relative who also noted that Kori had shown signs of depression and had earlier unsuccessfully attempted suicide stated.

Mediamax Limited CEO Ken Ngaruiya has since issued a statement offering condolences to the family of K24’s former Molo correspondent George Kori.

“Today, our hearts are heavy as we lose a valuable team member and hardworking journalist and as an organization, we wish to reiterate our support for his family and friends as they embark on funeral arrangements,

“The circumstances around his death also call for a deeper awareness and introspection surrounding matters mental health, and we vow to play a more enhanced role in mental health awareness in the country as a tribute to him,” the statement reads in part.
