Mombasa County asks all participants at next week’s CASA Games to vaccinate

The county government of Mombasa has asked all participants at next week’s County Assembly Sports Association (CASA) Games to vaccinate before visiting the coastal city for the championships.

Innocent Mugabe, Mombasa Youth, Gender and Sports chief officer, said they have been in contact with all the 47 county assemblies and asked them to ensure all their participants have received the jab.

“This is one of the major events that is happening after curfew was lifted by the president. We had communicated to all the 47 county assemblies to ensure that all their staff and MCAs who are going to participate are vaccinated. Therefore, our team from the health department is working tirelessly to ensure that all participants are vaccinated during their registration process,” Mugabe said.

Speaking at the same time, Peter Imwatok, Casa chair, said they expect over 10,000 county staff and members from around the country.

“We are expecting more than 10,000 people in Mombasa and therefore, I want to encourage all the business people in Mombasa to put their stock in place because they have customers to consume,” Imwatok said.

The competition was postponed last year due to the surge of the Covid-19 pandemic and expects businesses in Mombasa to reap handsomely from it.

The games, which will cost Sh 14 million will kick off on Monday at Mombasa Sports Club. Venues to be used include Mbaraki, Mombasa Sports clubs, KPA, Shanzu, Tononoka Social hall, Bamburi, Kisauni, Changamwe, Technical University of Mombasa, and Kenya Coast Polytechnic.

The participants will be engaged not only in sports but also in cultural activities which will take place on Friday next week at Wild Waters Complex.
