Wafula Wakoli: Wetangula’s long-serving PA

Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula has named his successor.

Speaking on Friday, August 19, he endorsed his longest-serving personal assistant Wafula Wakoli to take the mantle as the next Bungoma County Senator.

The Kenya Kwanza Alliance principal confirmed he will replace outgoing Speaker of the National Assembly, Justin Muturi, as per his pre-election agreement with President-Elect William Ruto.

In the election pact, the Head of State was to come from Rift valley, the deputy president from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region whereas the third in command of the country, Speaker of the National Assembly, was to come from the Western region.

It is also expected that the region will enjoy at least 30 per cent of the total national government appointments upon Ruto’s swearing-in.

OnceWetang’ula takes over as the Speaker of the National Assembly, it will prompt the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to declare the Bungoma Senate seat vacant, hence going for a by-election in which the lion’s party has already endorsed Wafula Wakoli.

Who is Wafula Wakoli?

Wakoli has been the longest-serving P.A to Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula.

Prior to joining politics, Wakoli was a Kiswahili teacher at Milima Secondary School.

Wakoli was endorsed by all recently elected Ford Kenya leaders.

They praised him for remaining loyal to the party and playing a crucial role in ensuring that the party meets its expectations in Ruto’s formidable alliance.

Wetang’ula says that he prays God gives him the wisdom to carry out the duties diligently to ensure that the Kenya Kwanza government makes Kenya a great nation not only in Africa but across the world.

“I will pray to God to give me the continued wisdom that I carry so that I lead the national assembly in partnership with the Senate to make good laws for this country to make sure Kenya will not be the same again,” he remarked.
