The government will not be intimidated by Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga, a close confidant of President William Ruto has said.

Nyeri Town MP Maina Mathenge has warned the opposition leader of serious consequences of he continues badgering the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Mathenge asserted that Ruto is not a coward and will decisively silence the former Prime Minister.

The lawmaker advised Raila to call off the planned march to State House on Monday, March 20, or face repercussions.

He said Ruto is considering having the former Premier apprehended and locked up in jail.

“Raila has been in prison before and even now we think he has missed the cells. This time he will go to Kamiti prison again,” he said.

He added that the government will deploy all its resources to counter the Monday protests.

“We know Azimio is elaborately preparing, but the government is not sleeping either. They are planning to ferry supporters from their strongholds over the weekend.”

However, many Kenyans have either dared or cautioned the government against arresting the ODM boss, though a few insist he is not above the law.

Even a good number of government supporters are weighing the implications of arresting a person of Raila’s political stature, noting that there can be better ways to reduce his influence.

Raila enjoys a cult-like following that takes his word for law. Ahead of the demonstrations, thousands of his followers have said they are ready to sacrifice their lives “for a better Kenya”.

Azimio has vowed to storm the State House to reclaim their presidential victory, which they say was snatched by Ruto.
