Murder News Lands a Blogger on a Frying Pan

The DCI have pounced on a Kisumu City based blogger for allegedly spreading fake News.

A blogger in Kisumu County has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations after his post on social media turned out to be fake news.

On Sunday, Collins Ochieng had posted on his Facebook account that Ngere high school head boy had been killed by fellow students.

Detectives and education officials were quick to expel the news terming the allegations as fake.

A video also emerged online showing the head boy leading the Sunday Mass in the school.

Ochieng was later apprehended in a joint operation from officers in Reru and Kombewa police stations. They tracked the blogger to his house in Kisumu County.

A number of bloggers have been on the spot over news perceived to be too controversial or libelous.

Online influencer and blogger Polycarp Hinga was on the spot over his post claiming that Kibra Member of Parliament (MP) Kenneth Okoth had succumbed to cancer.

However, the rumor turned out to be fake as Okoth was still alive at that time.
Okoth however passed on weeks later.

The DCI has started capitalising and harrasing bloggers and independent News generators using the draconian cybercrime act.

Last year, the Most deplatformed Blogger in East and Central Africa Cyprian Nyakundi called out authorities for misusing the cybercrime Act.

Nyakundi and Robert Alai have been the biggest culprits and casualties of the draconian Law
