Murkomen Heckled in Elgeyo Marakwet

Drama ensued on Tuesday in Elgeyo Marakwet as Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen campaigned for the UDA candidate in the Senatorial by-election.

In a video, Murkomen is heard asking the residents to vote for the candidate, immediate former Marakwet West MP William Kisang, in honor of President William Ruto before they heckled him.

Some told the CS to go back to the office and focus on working on his post.

“Kwa sababu alinipatia nafasi ya kutumikia nyinyi na kutumikia Kenya, kwa heshima ya huyo rais mwenye ametuheshimu, mimi naomba kwa unyenyekevu tupigie chama cha UDA kura,” he said.

This is loosely translated to:

“Because he gave me the opportunity to serve you and to serve Kenya, in the respect of that President that has honored us, I humbly urge you to vote for UDA.”

The crowd however interrupted his speech with shouts of “Heshima gani? (What honor?) Nooo. Hakuna! Hakuna! Hatupigiii! (We won’t vote)”

Kisanga will contest against Jerotich Seii (Safina), Kevin Kiptoo (Independent), Tim Kipchumba (Party for Peace and Democracy), Mengich Kibiwott (Independent) and Timothy Tanui (The New Democrats).

The by-elections are scheduled for January 5, following Murkomen’s appointment into the Cabinet.

Other areas holding the by-elections include Garissa Township and Kandaar Constituencies.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission will also hold an MCA by-election in Shella ward.

The posts were left vacant following the appointments of Alice Wahome (Kandara) and Aden Duale (Garissa Township), into the Cabinet.
