Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has announced that his official departure from the Wiper Democratic Movement Party.

Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, June 25, the vocal politician declared that his support in the 2022 presidential race had shifted from Kalonzo Musyoka to Deputy President William Ruto.

“What business do I still have in wiper? I have no business to be in Wiper. I will ensure William Ruto becomes the 5th president of Kenya. And for the record, I am not being expelled from Wiper, I vomited wiper in 2017, excuse me.

“I am working round the clock to team up with Ruto to ensure that he is elected. We can only meet with Ruto to discuss serious issues,” he stated.

His announcement came a day after the Wiper Party censured him over alleged insubordination of the party leader.

The party gave Muthama 14 days to explain his actions or risk being found guilty of dissension, warranting a ruling that could see him kicked out of the party.

“Wiper Demoractic Movement-Kenya has initiated disciplinary proceedings against former Machakos Sen. Johnstone Muthama over alleged insubordination and defiance to the party’s ideologies,” an excerpt from the statement released by the party read.

During an interview on Tuesday, June 23, Muthama stated that he had left Wiper party in 2017 after declining to vie for the Machakos Senatorial position using the party ticket.

“I’m making it clear that I’m working round the clock with other Kenyans to make sure that Deputy President Ruto becomes the fifth President of Kenya,” he affirmed during the interview.
