Nairobi County Assembly Minority Whip Peter Imwatok was on Thursday arraigned for allegedly conning a woman in a fraudulent land sale transaction.

Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot, Imwatok was charged with obtaining Ksh.2,190,000 from Fresky Jipchirchir Bett by falsely pretending that he was in a position to sell her a parcel of land — “a fact he knew to be false.”

According to the charge sheet, the fraudulent deal involving a piece of land in Nairobi occurred between February 1, 2017 and October 31, 2017.

Imwatok, who is also the Makongeni MCA, pleaded not guilty and was released on a cash bail of Ksh.200,000.

The case will be mentioned on July 8, 2020.

A warrant of arrest that had bee issued against the MCA for absconding court has since been lifted
