A man who blocked President Kenyatta’s motorcade in Nairobi’s Lucky Summer estate on Wednesday has spoken out.
Kepha Nyambane told a local media that he decided to step in front of the presidential convoy to seek an audience with Kenyatta. He says life has been tough on him and he intended to ask for help from the president.
“Ukiona nimesimama mbele ya msafara ya rais nimefika mwisho. Mimi sikuwa na nia mbaya, nlikuwa naomba niongee na yeye,” Nyambane said.
The father of three said President Uhuru directed his security detail to let him go and promised to reach out to him.
“Nilipoona wameshuka, wengine wanakuja nkahofia, lakini kabla wanifikie, aliwaambia (Uhuru) wachana na huyu kijana na akaniambia kijana tutaongea,” he added.
Nyambane said two of his children had been sent away from school due to huge fee arrears and has been struggling to cater for his family.
“My sister took in one of my children. The other one, who was recently sent home for school fees, has reported back to school after her head-teacher watched me attempting to catch the President’s attention due to frustration. I did not fear being run over by his cars, as it is I am at the end of the road since I cannot provide for my family,” said Nyambane, who is eager to meet the president.
Following the incident, government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna allayed fears that the president’s security was under threat.
