Two nurses from Dandora Health Centre were on Tuesday suspended following reports that a woman was forced to give birth outside the facility as she did not have Ksh.20.
A statement from the Nairobi Governor’s office reiterated that maternity services are free at all county facilities and no one is supposed to pay any charges.
“No one is supposed to be subjected to inhuman delivery experiences in or outside our health facilities,” Nairobi County Health executive Mohamed Dagane said.
He further warned that administrative action will be taken against any nurse found culpable of negligence.
The county official noted that investigations into the matter are underway and his team have already been to Dandora Health Centre to establish what went wrong.
According to him, the woman delivered outside the gate because of a referral lapse and allegations of bribery cannot be substantiated until the probe is complete.
The statement from the county comes hours after women from Dandora took to the streets to protest over the incident.
