Four League matches were played to kick off the Football Kenya Federation Nairobi Women league action. The league, the third tier of the women’s football league in the country is expected to be introduced in other regions in the country as well.
Lexus Queens suffered the heaviest defeat on the opening day of the campaign after going down 0-10 to Uweza Women. In other results Beijing Raiders hit City Queens 4-1 while Kenyatta University were 3-0 winners against Mrembo FC. Acakoro saw off neighbors Kariobangi Sports 7-0.
The teams that will compete in the Nairobi region women’s league include: Ruaraka Girls Academy, Ruai Queens, Mrembo, KU Desert Roses, Kariobangi Sports, Dad Star, Uweza Women, City Queens, Kibera Queens, Beijing Raiders, Lexus Ladies, and McMillan Ladies.
The 12 participating clubs are divided in two regions Nairobi East and Nairobi West where the winners top teams from the two zones will meet in a playoff with the winner earning promotion to feature in the second tier, the women’s division one league.

The FKF Vice President, Doris Petra reiterated the federations focus on growing women football at the grass root.
FKF Women representative Magret Omondi commended Nairobi for the launching of the league challenging other regions to follow suit.
“Regional leagues are an important step towards achieving the federation’s vision towards the development of the women’s game at three grassroot,” said Omondi.
