Nairobi woman caught stealing new born babies at Pumwani Maternity Hospital

Police, on Saturday, arrested a woman who is suspected of attempting to steal a newborn baby at Pumwani Maternity Hospital.

The suspect, Irene Syombua, was arrested at the hospital with a body of a newborn baby wrapped in a sack and hidden in the boot of her car.

Irene has been arrested as police continue with investigations over the matter.

“Irene Syombua has just been arrested at Pumwani Maternity Hospital for attempting to steal newborn babies. Police have found the body of a baby wrapped in a sack and hidden in the boot of her car,” tweeted KTN News investigative journalist Hussein Mohammed.

Cases of theft of babies in Pumwani Maternity Hospital are common with some of the incidences involving staffs who work with cartels in the business.

Some mothers, however, have also been reported to sell their babies to willing buyers for as little as Ksh20,000.
