A bar owner from Naivasha is on the run for stabbing a friend to death. The two were drinking together when they engaged in an argument and the incident occurred. A witness of the evening incident who spoke to KB said that the 24-year-old victim was rushed to a nearby sub-county hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect managed to escape the scene and remains on the run. Reason for the fall out between the two very close friends is not clear. The victim bled profusely from the stomach.
Naivasha is home to bizarre stories, this happened as the police are also holding a woman on suspicion of child trafficking. The 45year old suspect has no signs of having delivered recently but claims to be the biological mother of a newly born baby. Police requested to detain her longer to allow thorough interrogation.
Residents blame the rise on crime in the area on drugs and joblessness. ‘Now you can’t even walk through these streets past six pm, these boys are armed with knives’ one resident noted. Idling youths resort to crime to earn a living and drugs to ease stress. Poor implement of community policing initiative like ‘Nyumba Kumi’ and lack of engagements between the authorities and the people.
Strangers and suspects are all over the place. Regimes upon regimes are promising creation of jobs and rolling out projects that can help the youths earn livings but such promises remain promises. The situation is getting worse, though not an excuse for crime, something needs to be done to curb crime and absorb the growing number of unemployment in life sustaining engagements.
Stricter laws need to be passed drug to cure the menace that is threatening the youthful generation. Police need to be serious in maintaining law and order. Focus on serving the country and not collecting bribes. Some of the offenders like these pay bribes and buy their freedom, some are actually notorious and known to cops but they are held and released without serious penalties.
It’s a very bad culture within the law enforcement community. It is breeding crime. People like these without respect to humanity deserve serious punishment to serve as an example to other would-be offenders and justice to the victims and their families. The public must be constantly reminded about the importance of community policing, collaboration with law enforcement agents and information sharing.
